Welcome to a peaceful space!
My office space is warm and welcoming, hopefully allowing you to enjoy the comfortable atmosphere.
Walking into the lobby, you will experience our version of a fish tank. There are usually calming melodies playing along with a virtual fish tank, the best kind (no cleaning the water, only dusting the screen).
At the appointment time, I’ll come to the lobby and introduce myself, and we’ll round the corner to my office space, where you’ll find an overstuffed sofa (not the typical therapy couch, but the one you could find at grandma’s house).
I’ll usually sit in the high back chair across from the couch to take some notes. Things get slightly stereotypical here – I have a clipboard and paper with my favorite cheap BIC pen.
From the start, our work is about you.
During the first sessions with me, you will answer some questions regarding reaching your goals and what has kept you from doing so thus far.
We’ll discuss symptoms and some of the biggest hurdles to reaching your desired outcomes. This casual conversation provides details about you and whatever you want me to know immediately. This session is also where I try to help you feel comfortable.
I promise I won’t be a stranger for very long at all. I like to use humor when I can because life doesn’t always have to be serious, nor does therapy. We’ll understand why you want to seek therapy and devise a plan that works for you, your schedule, and your overall goals.
After the first session, I would like to work with you on building a toolbox of practical strategies so life doesn’t keep kicking your tail. These may include coping strategies, building support systems, or learning to set boundaries. All are key to having success in reaching your therapy goals.
About Jennifer Loyd, LPC, Coach
Why did I choose to become a therapist?
I chose to become a therapist after a difficult experience in my own therapy as a 12-year-old girl, when my trust was broken, and my private information was shared with others. This experience shaped my commitment to always safeguard the confidentiality of my clients.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, I pursued my passion for psychology by earning a degree from Saint Leo University. I then continued my education at Capella University, where I received my Master’s in Human Services with a specialization in Mental Health Counseling.
My Approach to Therapy
In my early years as a therapist, I worked with a wide range of clients and issues, which helped me adapt to diverse needs. My mentors encouraged me to embrace all topics in sessions and focus on each client’s unique challenges.
I began with a focus on grief and loss, providing space for clients to explore their feelings. Over time, I developed a passion for trauma work, using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients move through their pain. I’ve also expanded my skills to address depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and OCD.
I believe you are the expert on your own experiences, and I am here to help you through difficult moments, guiding you with the tools I’ve learned over the years.
Life outside therapy is fulfilling.
When not engaging with clients and learning about you, I enjoy planning and going on camping trips with my family and dog, Ryder.
I like reading historical fiction books or doing jigsaw puzzles. I enjoy most kinds of music and some movies.
